What I Learnt From Nutrition Unit

What I learnt about fats is that there are many different types of unhealthy and healthy fats. One type of good fat is monounsaturated fat, and polyunsaturated fats, which are beneficial to your body. However, there are also a lot of bad fats which are trans-fat, and saturated fats.

What I have learned about sugar is that there is more than you expect in all foods. In Mountain Dew, there are 16 teaspoons of sugar, which means that you are taking your whole day’s dose of sugar in one hit. Sugar also gives you a high, which causes you to feel happy and full of energy, but when it goes past a certain point, you get a low and become tired. I also learnt that sugar comes from carbs too.

I think my snack was healthy as it had no sugar and low salt, and very low oil, and the oil that I used was olive oil. In addition, the filling (which was moroccan beef mince by the way) had barely any oil and had quite a bit of vegetables in it.

When I choose a snack I sometimes think about how healthy/unhealthy it is, but it actually rarely comes to my mind. For example, when I am drinking a soft drink or a bag of Doritos, I sometimes think about it if I eat too much, but if it is just once in a while I never think about it.

I think food is meant to be eaten with other people as when you eat you can have time to talk and socialise with other people. Usually, people get really busy on the weekdays, and if families always have dinner together, it is probably the only times during the week that they can talk.
